Sewerage Spills:Korsman Pan is formed by a natural depression and sewerage from the neigbourhood gravitates to two sumps in the conservancy, from where the sewerage is pumped out to the treatment facilities a few kilometers away.Frequent spills into the pan occur due to pump and electrical failures.Ekurhuleni needs to invest in: - Standby Diesel powered pumps - Larger sumps to accommodate surges in sewerage flow and power outages - Additional sewerage pumps for redundancyLittering:Visitors to the Conservancy frequently leave their litter behind or worse, deposit their litter inside the bird sanctuary.Speeding vehicles: Bird- and other wildlife are not restricted by the fences and are also found in the surounding area. During the migrating season, many frogs killed by vehicles can be found on The Drive.Speeding vehicles are also a threat to pedestrians who want to enjoy the tranquillity but who are forced to share the road with inconsiderate drivers.Air Pollution: Air pollution in the area is mainly caused by nearby industries

Allien plants that survive without human care, that have a high rate of multiplication and that gradually spread into new areas are called Invasive Alien Plants (IAPs)The Law says:The Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act (No 43 of 1983) specifies what needs to be done about IAPs.Category 1 must be controlled or eradicated. These include: - Lantana - Queen of the Night - Bugweed - Pom Pom Weed - Yellow Bells - Water Hyacinth - Chilean Cestrum - Cats Claw CreeperCategory 2 may only be grown with a permit under Controlled circumstances in officially demarcated areas. These include: - Black Silver and Green Wattles - Grey/White PoplarsCategory 3 may still be left to grow, but may no longer be propagated, planted, imported and traded. Category 2 and 3 aliens may not be grown in wetlands such as Korsman or within 30m of the 1 to 50 year flood line of water courses. Most of these species can be seen in Korsman Conservancy and need to be eradicated in a controlled fashion.
